This is the moment England rugby star Billy Vunipola laughs off being tasered by police as they try to eject him from a Majorca nightclub at 4.30am.

In footage obtained by MailOnline, the hulking 6ft2, 20-stone man-mountain is seen being surrounded by nine officers.

The bare-chested 31-year-old swipes out at one with his T-shirt in his hand and then walks menacingly towards him.

He is stopped by another officer who pulls him back to the bar while a colleague takes aim with a taser, which seemingly has no effect.

Vunipola glares over at the policeman who still has the taser trained on him but starts laughing out loud.

As he tries to put his shirt back on, he is hit by second dart, which this time incapacitates him and sends him stumbling forward.

The officers then pounce on him on mass and bundle him onto the floor, where they cuff his hands.

Vunipola – who plays as a number 8 for Premiership Rugby team Saracens – had been drinking with a friend in a late-night bar called Epic opposite the seafront in Palma, Majorca in the early hours of Sunday morning.

He drank £100 worth of Amarettos with orange juice and freshly squeezed lime – having already downed vodka shots and rum in another bar nearby.

Nightclub security had tried to throw him out after he became abusive to staff who warned him several times to put his shirt back on.

Full footage of the clash was released today by the management of Epic, who are now considering legal action against Vunipola to reclaim £5000 lost as a result of his alcohol-fuelled antics, which saw around 60 patrons forcibly removed from the bar by police just after 4am.

The sheepish rugby star – who had been teetotal for two years before falling off the wagon – arrived back in the UK yesterday, having been fined 240 Euros (£205) and handed a four-month suspended prison sentence after appearing in court.

In a statement he confirmed he was involved in ‘an unfortunate misunderstanding’ leaving a club in Majorca.

However, co-owner of Epic, Janek Krause 40, told MailOnline: ‘There was no misunderstanding – he was told four or five times to calm down and put his shirt on but he was drunk and refused.

‘He’s a very big, powerful guy and the security we’re trying to reason with him, but he was being aggressive, so the police were called.

‘At the time we had 60-or so customers, the place is always busy, especially at weekends, but for safety reasons everyone was ordered out and we had to close the bar.

‘There were about nine or ten police officers surrounding the rugby player. Some were pointing tasers at him. He was still refusing to get out and when he lashed out at one of the officers with his shirt, he was shot with a taser.

‘The first dart did nothing and he just leant back and laughed but the second time he felt it and fell forward. That’s when the police managed to get him under control after pushing him down onto the ground.

‘The whole incident lasted about 20-minutes. We’re now talking to our lawyers because we must have lost about 2-3000 Euros in takings.

‘We stay open later than most bars in Palma as we close at 5am so the last hour is usually our busiest. But on Sunday we had to close at 4am, turn the music off and usher everyone out the bar.

‘You must also think of the damage to the club’s reputation as some of the customers in there at the time may have been put off coming in again.

‘He hasn’t apologised or been in touch. We’re going to discuss with our lawyers the possibility of recouping something like 5000 Euros from him.’

Mr Krause said Vunipola walked in with a friend around 3am on Sunday and ordered six Amarettos adding: ‘Four of them were from him and two for his friend.

‘They were lining up drinks and he was very drunk, but his friend was very helpful in trying to calm him down.’

Mr Krause’s business partner – Toni Rocha – had previously told how Vunipola confronted police by shouting ‘f**king cops’ at them.

Mr Rocha said: ‘The first time I asked him to put his shirt on he was propping himself up at the bar with his elbows and he was drinking from one of the glasses I’d poured him and had another three drinks in a triangle in front of him.

‘He didn’t threaten customers or staff with bottles or bar stalls or anything like that but he was annoying other customers by pushing them, not in a violent way, but elbowing them and bothering them.

‘He put his shirt on when I asked him to first time round. His friend who was co-operative at all times helped him put it back on. But then he took it off a second time and then a third and we decided to call police.’

Mr Rocha described how the situation soon became ‘very tense’ and said: ‘I’d already got the doormen involved to try to get him to leave and his friend was assisting us but there was just no way we could get him to abandon the premises.

‘I warned his friend I was going to call police and he said: ”Do what you have to do.”

‘We thought he was going to calm down when he saw uniformed officers arrive but when the first police appeared on the scene he confronted them and they had to call for back-up. 

‘They tried to get him out and couldn’t until they tasered him. He laughed the first time, it was like a film, and I heard the words ”another one” but the second time round he fell to the ground and the officers immobilised him and put wrist ties on him.’

Vunipola had been drinking with a larger group of friends earlier in the evening in the Havanna Bar.

A member of staff said: ‘He was in here around 10pm on Saturday night with about 20 or so other pretty huge guys. They looked like rugby players on a stag party or something like that.

‘He drank vodka, Amaretto and rum. He was having a good time. You could tell he and the others were a bit drunk but they were behaving themselves, just laughing and joking.’

A barman at a neighbouring winebar called Lab said Vunipola had told him he was in Majorca with his uncle adding: ‘The uncle was almost as big as him – but maybe 10-years older.’

After being escorted out of Epic, Vunipola was arrested and charged with ‘disobeying and assaulting a police officer’.

He was taken to nearby Son Espases Hospital after being held where he had to be sedated and bound to his bed.

Until the medication took effect several security guards and police officers had to watch over him.

He was taken to court on Sunday, wearing the same blue T-shirt and beige shorts he was arrested in.

Vunipola later released a statement and said: ‘I can confirm I was involved in an unfortunate misunderstanding when I was leaving a club in Majorca on Sunday, which got out of hand.

‘Contrary to media reports, there was no violence, no fight and I did not threaten anybody at any stage, with bottles or chairs or anything else.

‘I was charged with resisting the law and, following an ‘express trial’, have paid a fine of 240 euros. The Spanish police investigation is now closed, and I am flying back to the UK today.

‘I will obviously co-operate with the Saracens internal process and unreservedly apologise for any inconvenience to all involved.’

A spokesman for the National Police in Majorca, in their first formal comment on the arrest, said: ‘In the early hours of yesterday morning, at 4.30am, we arrested a 31-year-old foreign man on suspicion of a crime of disobedience and assaulting a police officer.

‘The events took place in a leisure establishment on the seafront in Palma, when a man was causing altercations inside the establishment.

‘The man would not listen to reason and confronted the rest of the customers, and the security staff were unable to restrain him or remove him from the premises.

‘The police were alerted and the officers, on seeing the man, who was shirtless and making gestures with his hands, cleared the premises.

‘It was then that he confronted the police and attempted to assault the officers. The police officers tried at all times to get him to calm down, but the man would not listen to reason.

‘At that moment, the man pushed and slapped an officer and a policeman pulled out his electric stun gun and fired a first time although the gun didn’t discharge.

‘A second projectile was then fired, which did the job, and it was then that the officers jumped on him and proceeded to immobilise him by shackling him, later taking him to Son Espases hospital for assessment and arrest.

‘Yesterday afternoon he was taken to court and released on bail pending an ongoing investigation.’

A Saracens club statement read: ‘Saracens is aware of an incident involving Billy Vunipola in Majorca.

‘We will of course deal with this incident internally, and will not make any further comment until then.’

Vunipola was born in Australia but spent his childhood in Wales and the south west of England after emigrating to the UK.

He won a scholarship to attend the prestigious Harrow School and whilst there, was picked by Wasps Academy where he made his senior debut aged 18.

Vunipola featured 30 times in two seasons before signing for current club Saracens.

He made his debut for England on the 2013 Summer Tour of Argentina. He has since amassed nearly 80 caps.

His father and uncle both played for Tonga. His cousin Taupe Faletau has been capped by Wales and British and Irish Lions.
