Right after winning The Masters for a second time, World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler paid tribute to his wife, Meredith.

Meredith Scheffler wasn’t able to travel to Augusta National as she is expecting her and Scottie’s first child in the coming days.

Right after he stepped off the 18th green and into Butler Cabin for the on-air green jacket ceremony, Scheffler was asked if he had anything to say to his wife at home.

‘I’m coming home,’ he said. ‘I’m coming home as quick as I can. Yeah, I love you and I’m coming home. That’s all.’

When quizzed further, he joked: ‘You’re going to make me cry.

‘It’s a very, very special time for both of us. I really can’t put into words what it means to win this tournament again, I really can’t put into words what it’s going to be like to be a father for the first time.

‘So I’m looking forward to getting home and celebrating with Meredith, it’s been a long week here without her.’

When speaking again in public at the official ceremony, Scheffler repeated the sentiment in a speech.

‘I love you sweetheart, I’m excited for the next few weeks. I’m excited to get home. I miss you and I love you, and I’ll be home soon.’

Scheffler was potentially waiting on news of Meredith, his high school sweetheart, going into labor and he made it clear that he would withdraw from the tournament if she did start giving birth.

Fortunately for Scottie, that didn’t happen and he claimed the $3.6million prize for winning the tournament – and, of course, the illustrious green jacket.
