Footy legends Andrew Johns and Brad Fittler left baffled about the meaning behind Easter

Andrew Johns and Brad Fittler may need to take a quick trip back to school after their shocking lack of knowledge about Easter came to light.

Footy great Johns posed an unexpected question during this week’s episode of Freddy and the Eighth ahead of the Christian celebration this weekend. 

‘I’m just thinking, what is the biblical thing at Easter? What happened?’

Former NSW Blues coach Fittler interjected: ‘You don’t eat meat on Sunday. No, you don’t eat meat on Friday.’

Joey asked:  ‘What happened in biblical times?’

‘He died and came back Monday,’ Fittler answered confidently.

‘So on Thursday or Friday [he dies] then he comes back…’ Johns began, before Fittler finished his sentence: ‘He comes back Monday.’

A slightly baffled Mat Thompson sought to clarify the situation.

‘No, he comes back on Easter Sunday.’ 

And Johns, seemingly unsatisfied with the full breakdown, finished by asking: ‘So what happened on Monday?’

While Fittler is correct in saying that some Christians do not eat meat on Good Friday, it’s not mandatory to do so.

It is common, however, for Christians to eat a fish meal on Good Friday.

Christ also rose from the dead on the third day, which is a Sunday. 

‘Look at us,’ Fittler laughed. ‘How bad are we?’

‘You’d have to talk to a reverend,’ said Thompson. ‘But I think that is generally the story.’
