Andy Robertson injured on international duty for Scotland AGAIN as Liverpool star holds

Not for the first time this season, Jurgen Klopp will await the return of Andy Robertson from Scotland duty with a sense of trepidation.

Robertson picked up what appeared to be an ankle injury during Tuesday night’s match against Northern Ireland in Glasgow.

Scotland’s captain needed treatment after a challenge from Trai Hume and tried to continue but went over on the same ankle a little later in another collision.

He signalled immediately to the bench and limped off in the 36th minute looking utterly dejected.

Klopp will be keen to assess him back on Merseyside but Robertson will be a doubt for Sunday’s Premier League game against Brighton.

He missed three months of this season when he damaged a shoulder on international duty against Spain in October and required an operation.

Liverpool are in pursuit of the Premier League title and the Europa League before Scotland head for Euro 2024 in Germany.

Anfield teammate Conor Bradley scored in the friendly at Hampden Park with the help of a slight deflection, his first for Northern Ireland.

This is his second blow of the season after was ruled out between October and January following a collision with Spain goalkeeper Unai Simon in a Euro 2024 qualifier. 

Jurgen Klopp has been forced to improve this season due to an onslaught of injuries.

Kostas Tsimikas initially stepped in to replace Robertson when he was absent, but Joe Gomez wore the left-back hat when the Greece international was injured himself. 

It has been an unusually difficult season for Robertson, who has coasted through the majority of his Liverpool seasons with little trouble. 

He played at least 43 games in all of the last five seasons before this one, proving his fitness and consistency. 

Robertson has already missed three months of the season after shoulder surgery in October 

Shoulder surgery meant that he missed 21 games this campaign and he will be desperate to avoid missing out on more.

Liverpool have already scooped up the Carabao Cup and could add another Premier League title and the Europa League to their haul in Jurgen Klopp’s final season. 

Their next match is at home to Brighton on Sunday but they have eight games coming up in a packed April, including Premier League tests against Manchester United and Everton. 

They will also play both legs of their Europa League quarter-final tie against Atalanta around the middle of the month.
