Brighton release their line-up – three changes

Three changes from Roberto De Zerbi.

Verbruggen gets the nod in the latest twist of Brighton’s eternal goalkeeping battle between him and Steele.

Adingra, fresh from winning the Africa Cup of Nations with Ivory Coast, is in, as is Webster. Estupinan and Lallana drop out.

Sheffield United release their line-up – two changes

Chris Wilder has made a couple of tinkers to his starting XI for this one.

Osula comes in up top as a replacement for Archer while Larouci takes the spot of Norrington-Davies.

Vini Souza turns up… and is hoping for another goal?

Vini Souza admits his mum could be rather harsh as they waited for his first Premier League goal. Safe to say he made her smile with his first last week against Luton!

Pitch looking decent?

Brighton players and staff have been out inspecting the turf.

I do wonder what goes on in these checks, and at what point they’d go: ‘Nah, we’re not playing on this.’

Grounds staff work tirelessly through the week to get Premier League pitches in pristine condition. You’re not going to find mole hills, lads.

DEEP DIVE: A closer look at De Zerbi… and why he could face friction with superstars

A brilliant read on Roberto De Zerbi here by Tom Collomosse. Make sure you’re signed up to MailPlus to get deeper features like this.

But are the waters as calm as they appear?

Video: Sheffield United arrive in style

Plenty of time for young fans here in this video. Good to see.

Bring out the birthday balloons!

Former Sheffield United man Keith Gillespie turns 49 today.

Gillespie ran the wing for the Blades between 2005 and 2009, helping the club win promotion to the Premier League.

He’s got an interesting story in recent years. Gillespie plays for FC Mindwell, a Northern Irish club set up to raise awareness around mental health issues.

He came out of retirement in 2020 to join and they ply their trade in the unstintingly glamorous Mid-Ulster Football League.

Do share your memories of Gillespie in the comments section!

A relaxed approach to doubts over De Zerbi

One Brighton fan account is taking a blase stance on speculation about Roberto De Zerbi’s future.

If there’s one thing Brighton are good about, it’s regeneration. There was some uproar when Chris Hughton left – could they switch to a more expansive style under Graham Potter? They did.

And when Potter left, they got even better under De Zerbi. Tony Bloom’s club is, by all visible accounts, a well-run one, and you feel they’re not beholden to any ephemeral face in the dugout.

Sheffield United officially out of the Premier League title race

Bad news, Blades fans. You’re not doing a Leicester this season.

One account has helpfully pointed out that Sheffield United are now mathematically out of the Premier League title race, presumably leaving them to focus on the Champions League footrace… or avoiding relegation?

After yesterday’s results, they’re 44 points behind Liverpool with 14 games to go, meaning they can only pick up 42 more points. Maybe next season.

De Zerbi’s future a cloud hanging over Brighton?

If there’s one thing footballers need, it’s a distraction-free environment to go about their business.

It won’t help that their highly vaunted coach, Roberto De Zerbi, is being linked with every man and his dog.

Liverpool, Manchester United, and Barcelona are all being talked about as potential next destinations for the Italian coach, and the Seagulls are drawing up contingency plans in case he flies the nest.

Could he make the step up to a bigger club?

Sheffield United arrive

It’s helpful of the Blades to arrive at their own stadium. Otherwise, we’d have a very one-sided game of football!

Shots are starting to come in of them arriving. Stay with us for all the updates.

Brighton arrive

A quick internet search is telling me that it’s 222.2 miles from the Amex to Bramall Lane – presumably a distance painstakingly measured by yardstick by a hapless Google employee – so the Seagulls have come a long way to be here?

Will they be flying off with all three points, or is an afternoon of disappointment in store?

Home comforts for the Blades?

Sheffield United have won three games in the Premier League this season – not the most inspiring record.

Fortunately, two of those have come at Bramall Lane: a 2-1 win over Wolves and a 1-0 victory against Brentford.

They are winless in three at home but will hope to catch a shaky Brighton by surprise up in Yorkshire.

Last time out

It was hat-trick heaven for Joao Pedro when these two met in January.

In a dramatic FA Cup encounter, Sheffield United went 2-0 down, levelled the scores before half-time, and threw it all away again in the second half as Brighton ran riot.

You can remind yourself of all the action below.

Good afternoon

Hello and welcome to Mail Sport’s live coverage of Sheffield United vs Brighton in the Premier League.

Sheffield United took a big step forward in their bid for survival last week with a 3-1 win at Luton but are still seven points deep in the drop zone.

Meanwhile, Brighton have been heavily unpredictable of late – losing 4-0 to Luton themselves in January – and come in to this on the back of a 2-1 loss at Tottenham.
