A British man has been arrested after armed police raided his Costa home and found nearly 10,000lbs of cannabis resin in one of Andalucia’s ‘largest ever’ drugs busts.

The raid took place in La Linea in Andalucia near Spain‘s border with Gibraltar, famed as a drugs gateway to Europe.

A team of armed officers were shown marching up to the house beside the wall in footage released by police today before slowly making their way up the steps.

Inside the building detectives could be seen counting out a bundle of 50 euro notes and opening up a door to a room where most of the cannabis resin is thought to have been stored.

The large parcels containing the cannabis appeared to have the names of their recipients on them. The name ‘Ralph’ was scrawled on one and ‘Coly’ on others.

Police have released little information about the three detainees but confirmed one is British and described him as the owner of the villa where the drugs were found.

A spokesman for the Civil Guard in the port city of Algeciras near La Linea confirmed: ‘The Civil Guard has found and dismantled a drug “guarderia” in La Linea with more than 9,920lbs of cannabis resin.

‘It’s one of the largest drugs seizures ever discovered in a “guarderia” in recent years in the Andalucia region.

‘The operation has culminated in the arrest of three people, one of them British who is the owner of the property, and the seizure of two vehicles including a stolen vehicle.

‘Police carried out the raid after finding out about a coastal drug drop in La Linea.

‘The detainees have been handed over to the courts.’

It was not immediately clear today if the British man and the other suspects, whose nationalities have not been disclosed, have already appeared before a judge and whether they have been remanded in custody pending an ongoing investigation.

Drugs traffickers use vessels including high-powered speedboats to smuggle mainly hashish into Spain from Morocco through La Linea.

It is a popular drop-off point due to its proximity to the African continent.
