‘Release the J6 hostages Joe!’ Trump says Biden should free riot participants on third

Former President Donald Trump marked the third anniversary of the January 6 Capitol attack by again demanding that the ‘hostages’ be released by President Joe Biden

Trump brought up January 6 at both of his Iowa appearances Saturday on the campaign trail, saying at one of them that participants in the riot three years ago acted ‘patriotically and peacefully.’

He also continued to go after former Rep. Liz Cheney, one of only two Republicans to participate in the House of Representatives‘ probe after the attack.

After a nearly three and half hour delay – due to a malfunctioning small private plane Trump’s team had rented to get the ex-president shuttled between two smaller Iowa towns ahead of the January 15 caucuses – Trump took the stage Saturday night in Clinton, Iowa.

Trump charged Biden and the Democrats with turning the country into ‘h***’ and then added, ‘you know what they outta do? They outta release the J6 hostages. They’ve suffered enough.’

‘They outta release them,’ the ex-president and 2024 GOP hopeful continued. ‘I call them hostages, some people call them prisoners, I call them hostages.’

‘Release the J6 hostages, Joe!’ Trump said, his voice getting louder. ‘Release them Joe! You can do them real easy, Joe.’

Biden kicked off his year of 2024 campaigning by delivering a speech Friday from Valley Forge, Pennsylvania in which he said ‘we nearly lost America‘ on January 6

He also called Trump ‘sick’ and a ‘loser’ during his remarks.

Since then, more than 1,265 defendants have been charged with crimes related to the attack in all 50 states and the District of Columbia, according to Justice Department figures.

Trump has long said he’d pardon participants if he got back into office.

At an earlier event in Newton, Iowa, the former president said the real 'insurrection' was the U.S. southern border crisis and floated that migrants did not act 'patriotically and peacefully, peacefully and patriotically' like the crowd of Trump supporters on January 6, 2021

At his earlier Iowa stop, in the town of Newton located outside of Des Moines, Trump said the current southern border crisis was a bigger issue than what happened on January 6.

‘When you talk about insurrection – that, that’s the real deal,’ the ex-president commented.

He said migrants were not doing things ‘patriotically and peacefully, peacefully and patriotically,’ words Trump reserved for the masses on January 6.

At another point at his Newton event, Trump commented, ‘nobody even thought J6 was even a possibility,’ before attacking Cheney.

‘She is a major case of Trump Derangement Syndrome,’ he said. ‘I watch her on television she’s shaking,’ he said, jiggling behind the podium to do an impression.

He then took credit for ‘knock[ing] her out of office.’

‘You know she lost by the largest margin in history for a congressperson, did you know that? Because any congressman, any congressman or woman, doing that badly would drop out of the race long before the race,’ Trump said.

Cheney lost her Republican primary in the ultra-red Wyoming in August 2022 to now Rep. Harriet Hageman by more than 37 points, which did set records.

Hageman is a supporter of the ex-president.
