Jessica Lange is seen in a wheelchair after opening up about her retirement while on walk

Best friends Jessica Lange and Susan Sarandon were spotted out on a walk in New York City on Saturday.

The Tootsie actress, 74, was in a wheelchair being pushed by a woman in a red beret.

The legendary actress — who will return to Ryan Murphy’s Feud limited series for its second season — wore taupe cotton pants, a black puffer jacket and black trainers as she was rolled down the sidewalk.

Sarandon, 77, walked companionably by her side in jeans and a black motorcycle jacket with flowers emblazoned on it. A maroon sweater peeked out from below the hem of the jacket.

The Thelma & Louise star added a multi-colored scarf and black newsboy hat to her boho-chic ensemble.

It is unclear whether the two-time Academy Award winner had an injury or not.

The two actresses worked together as Joan Crawford and Bette Davis in Ryan Murphy‘s Feud in 2017.

And while they’ve known each other for decades, that is the only time the two screen icons have worked together.

The women have maintained their relationship seven years after going for each others throats in the 2017 limited series Feud.

The FX drama focused on the filming of the Oscar winning drama and the reputed animosity between the film’s leading ladies.

Feud creator Ryan Murphy told the New York Times at the time, ‘It was very fun to have those two women and to be in a position of leadership on the set.’

‘Because make no mistake, when you’re doing a show with those two, they have a lot of opinions, and they’re always right because they’ve been around the block.’

Both Susan and Jessica worked as producers on the series. It was only the second time the Tootsie actress had taken an official role behind the scenes, but Susan, has more than a dozing producing credits to her name, including two of her most beloved films, Stepmom and Moonlight Mile.

In October, the King Kong actress revealed that she planned to retire from acting after more than four decades and many accolades.

Jessica first found fame in the 1976 King Kong remake, which earned her a Golden Globe Award despite the film’s mixed reviews.

Jessica has two Academy Awards for Best Actress to her name – for 1982’s Tootsie and 1994’s Blue Sky – as well as five Golden Globe wins.

But now, after 47 years on the silver screen, Jessica is planning to gradually phase out her roles.

She cited the reasons behind her decision to a lack of ‘creativity’ in the film industry as studios seek to increase profits over art.

In an interview with The Telegraph, she said: ‘Creativity is secondary now to corporate profits. The emphasis becomes not on the art or the storytelling. It becomes about satisfying your stockholders.

‘I’m not interested in these big comic-book franchise films. I think that they’ve sacrificed this art that we’ve been involved in… for the sake of profit.’

Jessica also believes ageism is a problem in the industry, and criticized the editing styles of modern films, which she sees as too ‘frantic.’

All in all, she added, changing attitudes have led to the loss of ‘wonderful films’ and ‘wonderful stories’ – and she is now looking to leave the acting business.

Her plans to retire, however, are very gradual as she first announced the move in 2013, stating she would only appear in one more season of American Horror Story – and that’s not what happened – she returned to the series for five more seasons, finally leaving it after season eight in 2018.

And she’s still not totally ready to give up acting. She is set to return for season two of Feud and still plans to appear in Eugene O’Neill’s Long Day’s Journey Into Night and in a Marlene Dietrich biopic.
