Ellie Gonsalves Influencer bride slams critics of her see-through wedding dress

Australian model Ellie Gonsalves has slammed trolls who criticised her for wearing a ‘naked’ dress to her wedding last month

The influencer, 33, wed partner Ross Scutts in a lavish Gold Coast ceremony, and wore not one but three designer gowns to mark the occasion.

However it was her third dress – a daring white mini dress with sheer panels and a plunging neckline – which sparked online backlash as many said it was inappropriate for a wedding.

Ellie finally hit back at her critics on Sunday, saying that she was a victim of society’s ‘restrictive’ expectations of women and how they should dress.

‘In an era where women are encouraged to exercise agency over their bodies, it is disheartening to witness the barrage of hate and derogatory comments I received for what some have described as my ‘daring’ dress,’ she wrote in an article published by 9Honey.

Ellie claimed the backlash she received exposed how society doesn’t support women’s ‘bodily autonomy’.

‘Every individual, regardless of gender, should possess the autonomy to decide what they wear, how they present themselves, and what they share with the world,’ she wrote.

‘By denying women this autonomy, we perpetuate a harmful culture of control that infringes upon their fundamental rights.’

Ellie, who has worked as a glamour model for many years, also pointed out that her idea of an ‘appropriate’ wedding dress likely differs from that of a conservative woman named ‘Susan’ who ‘grew up in a Christian community in Midwest, America’.

‘While the choices I make may be daring, I am not ashamed of them and I believe that by embracing our agency, we pave the way for a more inclusive, and accepting society,’ she wrote.

Ellie’s barely-there wedding dress made headlines last month after she shared a video of herself modelling the frock in front of her new husband.

The bride paired the corset-style frock by OGLIA-LORO Couture with a pair of silver strappy heels.

Some of her followers said the revealing mini-dress was more akin to lingerie, as it featured see-through tulle and a very high thigh split.

One person wrote: ‘What you’re sharing with everyone is supposed to be only for your husband.’

While another commented: ‘Soon, people will be going to weddings in their bikinis. More skin on show that way, right?’

And a third said: ‘I’m sorry but this is not a good dress for the wedding. Dress modestly!’

However, many of Ellie’s loyal followers defended her dress choice, and the bride herself later hit back at her haters.

The bride then shared a screenshot of this comment to her Instagram, and added: ‘What’s that phrase? If you dish it out, be prepared to take it? I can’t believe people are getting so offended by a wedding dress.’

Responding to another troll, Ellie wrote: ‘FFs lighten up girl. It’s a dress at a wedding of someone you don’t know. Don’t like it, change the channel. Simple as that.’

One person commented that she looked ‘fast and loose’ on her wedding day and Ellie hit back, writing: ‘The only thing that’s fast and loose was your mum’s hands when she dropped ya on your head as a child.’
